Earlier this year, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cathay, which laid out our joint plan to nurture a new generation of talent to support Hong Kong's ambitions to build its status as an international aviation hub.
The Digital LearnX Co-Lab programme is an innovative initiative established under this MoU, which aims to involve young individuals in creating inventive digital learning solutions. The conversation started early this year when both teams worked closely together to conceptualise the partnership, define the project's scope, and recruit talented young individuals. Finally on 4 August, both VTC and Cathay joyfully commemorated the launch of this initiative, marking the beginning of an exciting one-year project.
Starting in August 2023, 25 VTC students from Design and IT disciplines will work together with Cathay's Learning Academy to develop 5 innovative digital learning solutions in the form of immersive virtual tours and learning games across the areas of airport services, inflight services and cargo services. The students will also gain invaluable insights from business experts from the Cargo and Customer Service Delivery teams at Cathay, thereby understanding the business challenges as they design digital learning solutions. This project not only invests in the future of our youth but also propels Cathay towards its vision of enhancing skill development and knowledge in service and operational excellence through digital learning leadership.
To celebrate the launch of the Digital LearnX Co-Lab programme, a kick-off ceremony was held on 4 August at Cathay City. The ceremony was graced by the guest of honour, the Former Financial Secretary of Hong Kong and founder of Esperanza, Mr John TSANG. Other notable attendees included VTC Deputy Executive Director, Dr Eric LIU, and Cathay Director People, Ms Patricia HWANG.The programme got off to a tremendous start at its kick-off ceremony.
The day began with an enlightening panel discussion on digital learning, facilitated by Cathay Head of Learning – Customer Experience, Ms Eva NG. The panel was comprised of Ms Patricia HWANG; Cathay Head of Digital Innovation Mr SL HO; Director of VTC Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre, Mr Geddy LEE; and our distinguished guest of honour, Mr John TSANG.
The panellists exchanged their views on digital learning and shared valuable advice with students on areas around future skills development and working in an ever-changing world.
The day continued with a Business class signature drink-mixing workshop and visits to Cathay City mock-up training facilities, the Cathay Cargo Terminal and the lounges at Hong Kong International Airport, which all gave students first-hand experience and exposure to the subject matter they will be designing for.
We eagerly await the innovative digital learning solutions that will emerge from this collaboration, an endeavour that embodies an investment in our youth and the future of digital learning in the aviation industry. Here's to a successful partnership that propels us towards excellence and innovation. Onward to a remarkable journey ahead!
