Since last two decades, the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Hong Kong has undergone significant transformation, guided by supportive policies such as Article 138 of the Basic Law and the enactment of the Chinese Medicine Ordinance. Despite these advancements, the sector remains underfunded, with only 0.45% of the Hospital Authority’s 24/25 budget allocated to TCM. At the same time, public demand is on the rise, with 24.3% of citizens having consulted TCM practitioners in 24, largely due to its perceived effectiveness in managing chronic ailments and its minimal side effects compared to Western pharmaceuticals.
NutriScan is developed in response to this unmet need, offering a cutting-edge digital health solution that bridges ancient medical wisdom with modern technology. The application integrates AI-powered facial and tongue diagnostics with core TCM principles to provide personalized, preventive health care. By analyzing visual biomarkers—such as acne distribution and tongue characteristics—NutriScan identifies internal organ imbalances and recommends targeted food therapy (食療), aligning with TCM’s "治未病" (preventive treatment) philosophy. This innovative approach is particularly suited to the fast-paced urban lifestyle of Hong Kong, promoting holistic well-being and empowering individuals to take charge of their health.
