VTC Students Continue to Ignite Innovation in Cathay's Operations

Building on last year's successes, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is excited to once again partner with Cathay for Digital LearnX Co-Lab programme. This collaborative initiative aims to nurture young talent by harnessing their ideas and integrating their knowledge into projects that modernise Cathay's training.

Starting this August, a new cohort of 30 VTC students from IT, Business Administration, and Hospitality disciplines will join forces with Cathay Academy and Cathay's business units to develop five interactive digital learning solutions. These solutions, presented as interactive learning games, will cover areas such as airport services, inflight services, and cargo services.

Over the course of this 12-month project, the students will work closely with subject matter experts from the Cargo and Customer Service Delivery teams to understand real-world business challenges and design tailored training solutions.

A Great Start to the Journey

On 21 August, VTC and Cathay celebrated the launch of this year's programme with a kick-off ceremony. The event began with Cathay's General Manager Employee Experience, Ms Wendy Kwok, offering words of encouragement and highlighting early career opportunities available to young talents at Cathay.

Notable attendees included VTC Senior Assistant Executive Director Ms Winnie Ngan, Principal of the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology Dr John Hui, Vice-Principal of the Hotel and Tourism Institute Dr Tommy Lau, and Head of the VTC Innovation and Technology Co-Creation Centre Dr KH Shum. The programme commenced with great enthusiasm at the kick-off ceremony.

Cathay General Manager Digital, Mr Aldric Chau, shared his inspiring journey from an I Can Fly participant to leading Cathay's digital initiatives. He motivated the students with insights on finding purpose in their work and adopting a growth mindset.

To give students a firsthand perspective on potential careers at Cathay, a panel discussion was facilitated by Cathay Head of Cathay Academy – Customer Experience, Ms Eva Ng. The panel featured representatives from Cathay's Talent Management Team and current Digital & IT Graduate Trainees, who shared comprehensive early career opportunities, valuable advice on skills development, and tips for thriving in Cathay's dynamic environment.

Touring the Facilities at Cathay

To conclude the day, the students were given a guided tour of Cathay City, providing a unique opportunity to meet Cathay's business experts and observe various departments up close, further immersing themselves in Cathay's operational dynamics.

We eagerly anticipate the innovative digital learning solutions that will emerge from this collaboration, an endeavor that represents an investment in our youth and the future of digital learning in the aviation industry. Here's to a successful partnership that drives us towards excellence and innovation. Onward to a remarkable journey ahead!
