The Cathay x VTC Digital LearnX Co-Lab Programme, now in its second consecutive year, has once again demonstrated the transformative power of industry-academia collaboration. As evidenced by the game-based training solution developed in last year’s programme, which was deployed to train around 300 Cathay staff across seven regions globally, the programme is eminent in its real-world impact.

In 2025, the programme brought together 29 VTC students from Information Technology, Business and Hospitality disciplines to develop innovative digital platforms tailored to Cathay’s training needs, extending the success of last year’s achievement.

A Year of Innovation and Real-World Learning

During the year, students worked under the mentorship of the Cathay teams  and visited Cathay’s unique operational units. These authentic learning opportunities provided invaluable insights into the aviation industry, enhanced students’ technical expertise and understanding of workplace dynamics, and prepared them for future challenges.

A Showcase of Excellence

The programme culminated with a Closing Ceremony on 15 August 2025 at the Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre (ITCC) of VTC, where students presented five high-quality web-based training packages addressing the following critical areas, including Dangerous Goods Acceptance, Aircraft Security Search, Freighter Ramp Coordinator Duty,  Airside Safety and Business Class Meal Order Taking. These innovative training solutions received widespread recognition from industry experts for their relevance, quality and alignment with Cathay’s operational needs.

Celebrating Collaboration and Distinguished Guests

The ceremony was graced by notable guests, including Mr Aldric CHAU, General Manager Digital ; Ms Jennifer ZHENG, Head of Cathay Academy, Service & Operational Excellence  and Ms Karen YUEN, Digital Learn Lead – Content from Cathay. From VTC, attendees included Mr Simon TANG, Assistant Executive Director of Headquarters (Industry Partnership); Ms Jamie CHENG, Assistant Executive Director of Headquarters (Industry Partnership) and Mr Francis FUNG, Senior Manager of ITCC.

Empowering the Next Generation

The programme’s hands-on approach has provided students with practical experience, enhanced skills in technology development and valuable exposure to industry trends and best practices. To recognize their contributions, students were awarded certificates and mileage rewards, further motivating them to excel in their future careers.

Looking Ahead

With the success of this year’s programme, ITCC and Cathay are excited to continue fostering innovation and empowering young talents in future collaborations. As we build on these achievements and explore new opportunities to push the boundaries of digital learning innovation, we remain committed to delivering impactful solutions for the aviation industry and beyond.
