The "Create Smart District in Hong Kong" project was organized by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), in partnership with Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and Vocational Training Council (VTC) to enhance public awareness of smart city development in Hong Kong through conferences, technology workshops, competition and roadshow. The project was funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) provided by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

The Final Pitching and Prize Presentation Ceremony were held on 14 June 2022 and completed successfully. A total of 18 teams with over 90 VTC students took part in the competition and 3 teams were awarded at the ceremony.

Prior to entering the competition which kicked off in July 2021, all participants from different academic disciplines attended the 20-day emerging technologies workshops conducted by ITCC. The preparatory workshops helped students identify issues in the 18 districts in Hong Kong and come up with innovative and technology-based solutions to resolve the challenges.

First place went to “Smart FIT Station” for their idea to encourage the elderly to play light recreational games to train their cognitive and physical abilities.
Second place went to “Smart Bus Boarding Solution” for their idea to make it easier for physically disadvantaged and visually impaired people to take public buses.
Third place went to “VisualGo” for their idea to create a mobile app to enhance the shopping experience for visually impaired people in supermarkets.
